About the GBGH Board of Directors

Georgian Bay General Hospital’s Board of Directors is composed of community representatives, as well as hospital staff members and two representatives from the medical staff. Each of these individuals volunteer their time, experience and skills for the betterment of our hospital.

Tim Kastelic

Chair

Tim is a retired bank executive with extensive international management and governance experience. His past experience serving on a number of healthcare boards and his deep knowledge of Ontario’s health care system ideally position him for his current role with GBGH.

Having cottaged on Georgian Bay for almost 50 years, Tim and his wife are now permanent residents of Midland. His current passions include golf and volunteering at GBGH. 

Bernie Uhlich

Vice Chair

Bernie is a supply chain and IT executive, board governor, and management consultant with more than 40 years of experience leading transformations and integration of Global Supply Chains, Digital Supply Chains, Manufacturing, Operations, Mergers & Acquisitions, thereby helping organizations and clients deliver world-class game-changing competitive capabilities and solving complex system-wide problems. Bernie has experience across many different industries and cross-functional areas including healthcare, manufacturing, distribution/logistics, retail, and advanced omni-channel online order fulfillment, professional associations and the public sector.

As a permanent resident of our area, Bernie has a vested interest in advancing the state of healthcare services in our communities. He has a passion for leading the GBGH Board, leveraging his governance expertise, advocating, and helping navigate the organization’s growth through the ever-changing challenges of our healthcare system. This will ensure we attract and retain the best skills, resources, and partnerships for success in order to deliver on our Mission of “improving the health of the communities we serve” and the Vision of “exceptional care, every person, every time”.

Bernie is the Vice Chair of the Board. 

Jerry Van Dyk

Chair, Audit & Resource Committee

Jerry spent his career as CFO in various manufacturing companies, gaining vast knowledge and experience which has proven beneficial in his role on the GBGH Board. Jerry brings to the board strategic planning, attention to detail, is results oriented, and has the ability to see beyond just the numbers.

Jerry joined the Board to give back to his community and more specifically wanted to join the GBGH Board to help in any way to support our hospital needs for now, and the future, seeing the hospital as one of the great assets for our community. Jerry is currently Chair of the Board’s Audit and Resource Committee.

Barry Stranks

Chair, Governance Committee

Barry Stranks joined the GBGH Board of Directors after a long career in marketing, market research, and general management positions with the Canadian divisions of large multi-national companies, predominantly in the food industry. He also spent time working in the development and management of turn-around and start-up businesses, as well as directing asset development projects, including one focused on access to patient-centred long-term care.

Barry has lived in this area for the past 14 years, having moved from the Orangeville/Caledon area. Prior to relocating to our area and ever since Barry has been involved in a multitude of volunteer roles to help his community.

Barry is Chair of the Board’s Governance Committee.

Jim Mulligan

Chair, Quality Committee

Jim Mulligan retired to Midland in 2019 with his wife Karen following a successful career spanning more than 37 years in the financial services industry. Jim has specialized skills in financial and operational risk management, strategic development, and sales marketing.

Jim’s personal goal in his retirement and in volunteering on the GBGH Board is to give back to the community. Due to personal experience, he understands the importance of access to local healthcare and a strong system on which the community can depend.
Jim is Chair of the Board’s Quality Committee and also sits on the GBGH Foundation Board.

Paul Farley

Chair, Governance Committee

Paul has spent 38 years as a prosecutor for the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, and currently works as Vice Chair of the Financial Services Tribunal of Ontario. Paul brings to the Board broad experience as a lawyer and litigator, as well as previous experience as a Director on another hospital Board.

Paul joined the GBGH Board as a way to contribute to the community that has welcomed him since he moved to the area several years ago. 

Heather Ross

Heather has extensive experience as an executive in the financial services industry with expertise in business strategy, business development, operations, and transformational change. Throughout her career, Heather’s passion has focused on developing talent and fostering the best possible client experiences. She has a broad range of experience including developing innovative strategies and services to drive growth, championing enterprise transformational change, leading large operational mandates, and managing privacy, operational and compliance-related risks. Heather brings practical experience that includes client experience and usability research, business development, policy development and governance, and change management.

Having lost her husband after a year-long battle with cancer, Heather is passionate about quality healthcare and the patient experience. She has a lot of respect for the work of all those involved in delivering healthcare and her goal is to bring her professional experience and her focus on patient and family experience to our hospital Board.

Stanley Wolofsky

Throughout Stanley Wolofsky’s 40 year career in healthcare, he has worked in positions including Director of Utilization, Inpatient and Outpatient Geriatrics, and Social Work. His final 12 years of his career were spent working as a social worker in a GTA hospital’s emergency department. Having these varied positions, Stanley developed an understanding of both patient and family needs and the needs of the hospital.

By being on the Board of Directors, Stanley hopes to make an impact that you the consumer will make GBGH your hospital of choice! 

Dr. Treva Job

Dr. Treva Job is the Simulation Lead with the Health, Wellness and Science programs for a prominent college in Simcoe County. Her nursing career spans over 27 years in various positions as a Registered Nurse and Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner. She also holds a PhD from the University of Toronto in Curriculum, Teaching and Pedagogy. Treva has a diverse healthcare background both in hospital and community areas, in addition to the healthcare educational system. Treva has extensive knowledge of the multiple levels of healthcare and is well versed in the interdisciplinary roles in both acute care and tertiary care settings. She has a keen interest in quality initiatives that improve patient safety and care.

One of the many reasons she wanted to join the GBGH Board was to work collaboratively to build a better healthcare experience for all and to utilize her knowledge and understanding of the healthcare system. In addition, she is a resident of the area and believes that it is important to advocate for the needs of the community in which she lives.

David Allen

David Allen is a retired healthcare communications professional who has worked in the capacity of Vice President of Public Relations and Vice President of Community Relations and Partnerships for two major GTA hospitals. David has an interest in assisting the Board in the areas of community relations, as well as strategy and planning.

David Wattling

David Wattling has spent 30 years supporting our healthcare system through various consulting and technology businesses. He previously spent five years as a Board member at a regional health centre and also chaired that hospital’s Foundation Board. David has a passion for governance as he sits on several not-for-profit and for profit boards.

David is a strategic thinker who hopes to use his skills and experience to support GBGH and the community.

Matthew Lawson

President and CEO

Matthew Lawson has been President and CEO of GBGH since September 2022, having previously held the role of Executive Vice President of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer. During his time with GBGH, Matthew has transformed many aspects of the hospital, including the budgeting, resource allocation, and capital equipment processes. He has also been a driving force in GBGH’s master planning process to secure a future hospital and push forward approvals of the proposed mental health program.

Prior to his role with GBGH, Matthew spent 11 years at a large regional hospital in progressive management positions including Chief Performance Officer, Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, Manager of Cancer Treatment Clinics, and a variety of interim leadership positions.

Dr. Vikram Ralhan

Chief of Staff

Dr. Vikram Ralhan has been the Chief of Staff at GBGH since January 2020. Dr. Ralhan has been a physician in GBGH’s Emergency department since 2009, and during that time, he has also embraced many administrative, quality improvement, and educational roles beyond direct patient care.

In addition to being a member of the GBGH team, Dr. Ralhan is a coroner, an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University, and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). He is also the GBGH Site Liaison Lead for students from NOSM, helping bring future physicians to GBGH to learn from a skilled team.

Dr. Emily Queenan

President, Professional Staff Association

Dr. Emily Queenan, a native of Haverford, Pennsylvania, completed medical school at the University of Pennsylvania and did her family residency at the University of Rochester. Shortly after residency, Dr. Queenan remained in Rochester, operating the solo family practice Queenan Family Medicine & Maternity Care from 2009 until 2014. In 2014, Dr. Queenan closed her practice and looked to relocate to Canada based on her interest in supporting a system entrenched in the values of universal healthcare. In 2015, Dr. Queenan moved from the U.S. to Midland to open a Canadian iteration of Queenan Family Medicine & Maternity Care.

Dr. Danielle Davenport

Vice-President, Professional Staff Association

Dr. Davenport is a family physician who works in the inpatient service at the hospital. She is currently the Vice President of the Professional Staff Association, in which her role is to represent professional staff and raise any relevant issues to the Board.
