All prospective volunteers must complete an application form and be interviewed. If accepted, you will receive training in your chosen area of service by a volunteer trainer. Students (those 15 and over) wishing to volunteer are always welcome. Students should start the application process two to three months ahead of the end of the term if they want to volunteer during the summer break. This is due to the time involved in the application process and subsequent police checks that must take place before your start date.
Our Volunteers work closely with potentially vulnerable patients and their families. A copy of a Vulnerable Sector Police Check is mandatory (Not required if below the age of 18)
In a hospital setting workers are potentially at risk for acquiring a communicable disease. The Public Hospitals Act 1990, Regulation 965 requires that health surveillance and communicable disease surveillance be conducted on all persons carrying out activities in the hospital.
