Personal toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, Kleenex, brushes, combs, denture cups and tablets, shampoo and conditioners, nail clipper, bar soap, personal razors) are your responsibility. Do bring your own pajamas or night gowns if you prefer. Your own dressing gown and non-slip slippers are a must for your comfort.

Starting in January 2024, GBGH is transitioning to having patients use their own devices – such as cell phones and tablets (iPad) – while in hospital for entertainment or phone calls. This means there will no longer be TVs in patient rooms on the 2 North and 2 East inpatient units. Landline phones will also be removed from all patient rooms. The hospital provides Wi-Fi access, which patients can use with their devices for the duration of their stay. If a patient does not have a cell phone and/or tablet, the hospital can lend a tablet (iPad) or phone. To learn more about borrowing these devices, please ask your care team.

Other items you may wish to bring are reading materials, crafts or hobbies to do in your spare time. For children, also bring their favourite book or toy.

What Not to Bring

Electrical appliances such as hair dryers and electric razors are not allowed without approval by our maintenance staff.

Please leave jewellery, wallets, purses and other valuables in the care of your family at home. Likewise, please do not bring large sums of money with you. Personal belongings, valuables, jewellery and/or money kept in your room are your responsibility.

To protect patients and staff with allergies and asthma, GBGH promotes a “Scent Free” environment. Please do not wear scented products, essential oils, or perfumes, and encourage your visitors to respect this policy.

To protect patients and staff with allergies to latex, balloons made of latex are not permitted in the hospital. Only foil balloons are permitted.

To protect staff and patients with allergies, strong scented flowers such as lilies, hyacinth, etc. are not permitted in the hospital.
