The Georgian Bay General Hospital Laboratory is located on level 1.

ABOUT THE LAB

The Laboratory is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with highly trained Medical Laboratory Technologists and Medical Laboratory Technicians to provide access to hundreds of tests each day in hematology, chemistry, coagulation, blood transfusion medicine and microbiology to aid in your diagnosis or treatment.

BEFORE A LAB APPOINTMENT

Please follow instructions according to your requisition and ordering physician. Some tests may require fasting.

DURING A LAB APPOINTMENT

A Medical Laboratory Technician will look at your arm to select a suitable vein. They will use a sterile technique to insert a needle into the arm and collect blood into a specific tube(s) that is acceptable for performing the tests requested by your physician.

AFTER A LAB APPOINTMENT

You are welcome to leave immediately after your laboratory appointment. If you are feeling ill, it is essential to notify the Medical Laboratory Technician before you depart from the department.
