Obstetrical Unit

Welcome to the Georgian Bay General Hospital Obstetrics program. Georgian Bay General Hospital’s obstetrical unit provides Level I obstetrical care at our Midland site with services provided by family physicians, midwives, general surgeons and nurses. Georgian Bay General partners with Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, a Level II facility with paediatricians and obstetricians on staff, for higher risk deliveries and those needing a specialist.

GBGH is Breastfeeding Friendly
  • During the labour process, moms may have two support people with them.
  • Your baby will be rooming in with you during your hospital stay.
  • Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and open for partners. Siblings are welcome to visit but must be supervised at all times.
  • A vaginal delivery post partum stay is about 24 hours. If you have a Caesarian birth your length of stay is generally 48 hours.
  • Moms and babies are given bracelets with matching numbers. For the safety of all the hospital requests that you not leave your baby unattended and ensure any staff handling your baby have visible staff identification.

GBGH Prenatal Clinic Update

As part of our ongoing efforts to optimize Obstetrical Services and align with future Obstetrical/ Gynecology recruitment plans, Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) will be closing our Prenatal Clinic effective December 15, 2025.

We understand that changes to where care is received can be unsettling. Please be assured that your safety, continuity of care, and access to Obstetrical Services remain our highest priorities as we make this transition.

Dr. Queenan will maintain prenatal care of existing GBGH Prenatal Clinic patients, but transition point of care to her clinic at Queenan Family Medicine & Maternity Care. Queenan Family Medicine & Maternity Care will reach out to all existing GBGH Prenatal Clinic patients regarding next steps.

GBGH will continue to provide birthing services through our on-site Obstetrical Unit and will maintain our strong partnership with Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital through the Joint Birthing Program.

The last official clinic day at GBGH will be December 15, 2025. Current and new referrals can be sent to local community providers below.

For urgent pregnancy concerns, our Obstetrical Unit and Emergency Department services remain available on site.
