P. 8

Dear patients, family and friends,

If a patient is wearing an orange armband it means
they are at risk of falling.

Here’s how you can help prevent falls:

Ensure the bedside table and all belongings are
                                within reach.

                          Ensure walking aids are
                                      within reach.

Help the patient if they need help with
anything, including going to the washroom
(and stay with them until the patient is done).

Remind patients to sit at the side of their bed
before standing up. This prevents patients from
                                                             getting dizzy.

Ensure the call bell is within reach.

                               Ensure patients have good fitting
                                     footwear or non-slip socks .

                                                      Speak to the care
                                                      team and ask what
                                                      else can be done to
                                                      help!
