NSM LHIN Board of Directors Recruitment Notice – Chair

The Ontario Government is seeking local citizens interested in, and qualified for, service on the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) Board of Directors for the position of Chair, available in 2017.

LHINs make Ontario’s health care system more patient-centered and responsive to local health care needs by planning, coordinating, integrating and funding the delivery of health services in each of the fourteen LHIN geographic areas.

As the Chair of the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN Board of Directors, you will be responsible for directing its affairs in accordance with applicable legislation, approved strategic and business plans, the accountability agreement with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and the directions and policies established by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

In consideration of applications for the position of Board Chair, the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN will be seeking individuals with previous board experience. A Board Chair is the spokesperson for the LHIN. The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Be an experienced leader with a comprehensive understanding of the context in which the LHIN operates, as well as an understanding of the government’s objectives or the ability to acquire such understanding;
  • Ability to clearly articulate and implement a strategic vision and oversee the implementation of plans and strategies to deliver efficient, effective and high quality services;
  • Possess superior group facilitation skills, consensual decision-making skills and experience in running meetings in an explorative, respectful manner;
  • Possess an understanding of government values and a commitment to working within government values and accountability structures;
  • Substantive practical knowledge of accepted norms for the duty of care required of the Board;
  • Have an understanding of sound financial and operations business processes and practices;
  • Experience with crown agency governance;
  • Knowledge of the health care sector will be considered a key asset;
  • Understanding of sound governance practices with oversight for hospital and other health care providers will be considered a key asset;
  • Board and community experience at the Board Chair level.

Members of the public who represent the linguistic, cultural and geographic diversity of the LHIN region, including representatives from the Francophone and Indigenous communities, are encouraged to apply.

Serving on a LHIN board is a part-time appointment, involving a significant commitment, often involving meetings and/or teleconferences during and outside normal business hours. Candidates should consider their ability to make such a commitment as part of their decision to express their interest in serving on the LHIN board.
