November 11, 2019 – Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) held its annual awards dinner to celebrate staff and credentialed staff for their Years of Service. The event also honoured some of the hospitals’ team members with the GBGH Board of Directors’ Awards of Excellence. The evening is hosted annually by the hospital to recognize the dedication of staff, credentialed staff and volunteers.

“One of my favourite aspects of being a director on GBGH’s Board is when I get to spend time with the exceptional team members from our hospital,” says Tim Kastelic, vice chair, GBGH Board of Directors. “All of our team members are incredibly dedicated to patients and our community. They just seem to make it all happen and make it all look so effortless. The kindness, compassion, diligence and skill the team here commits to this hospital everyday makes GBGH an exceptional place to work, volunteer, practice and receive care. On behalf of the Board, we thank them for all they do.”

Every year at this event, the hospital recognizes the outstanding achievements of individuals and/or teams through peer-based nominations for the Board of Directors’ Awards of Excellence. This year, 13 nominations were received for individuals – staff, physicians and volunteers – and teams who exemplify the hospitals values and strategic themes of Quality & Safety, Engagement & Inclusiveness, and Accountability & Sustainability. The 2019 honours were handed out to the following:

• Lorri Chadbourne – Housekeeping
• Dr. Will Stuart – Hospitalist / Emergency department
• Carol Szarga – Volunteer, Diagnostic Imaging
• Anne Lalonde – Operating Room / Medical Device Reprocessing Department

GBGH also recognized staff and credentialed staff for reaching years of service milestones between five and 45 years. Three physicians – Dr. Peter Cameron, Dr. Josef Dolezel and Dr. Herman Jilesen – were recognized for 45 years of service to the hospital. Dr. Brian Cole and Dr. Douglas Donald reached the 40 year mark, while Gordon Gaines and Dr. John Zwicker were recognized for 35 years of service.
